A Powerful Statement

The mascots for the West Virginia Power have been announced. I’m appalled. The team’s web site says:

“Four of the mascots are loosely based on energy sources that factored into the team’s name selection and the fifth mascot features a throwback named “Charley.”

Oh really? Energy sources factored into the team’s name selection? That’s funny, because when the new team name was first announced, the Gazette reported that the name “WV Power” was chosen because Charleston is “the political power center of the state.” As I recall, no mention of the state’s energy industries was even made. Of course, it was obvious at the time that this was a load of crap. At least now it’s out in the open.

When I see little Charley standing there next to the rest of the crew, I just can’t stop singing: “One of these things is not like the other. One of these things is not the same.”
